Dark Shadows: The Visual Companion By Mark Salisbury Takes You Behind The Scenes With Tim Burton

Titan Books continues to put out amazing “making of” books and this one, Dark Shadows: The Visual Companion by Mark Salisbury is no exception.  Salisbury, who has written about Tim Burton on several other occasions, produced the book in close co-operation with Burton and his production team.  This lavish, hardcover volume includes a Foreward by the movie’s star, Johnny Depp as well as an introduction by Tim Burton himself.  The book features scores of previously unseen photos from the set, production designs, concept drawings (including some by Burton himself), and interviews with the cast and crew.

My favorite part of the book is the section about the Cast, in particular, page 65.  It’s a photo of Burton and Depp engaged in conversation with Christopher Lee and the look on their faces convey what a special moment this is for both of them.  Depp and Burton both have boyish grins and their admiration for Lee is clearly palpable.  (I also favored page 141 in which Depp displays some of his prosthetics in a grisly fashion.)

The images throughout the book are brilliant and captivating.  From extravagant set designs to some of Burton’s original art, each one gives us a valuable piece of the puzzle that will eventually become the final movie. Available on November 27th, this book is a must have for any fan of Tim Burton and his process for making movies.  The man has proven time and time again that he has a brilliant vision when it comes to movies and this book documents that vision exceedingly well.

Preorder the book HERE for the perfect holiday gift.  The duo of Burton and Depp is incredibly symbiotic and we are fortunate to witness it firsthand.  These two craft exceptional entertainment together and future movie fans will be talking about them long after they are gone.  Watch below as Burton talks about his experience on Dark Shadows.
